YWAM San Diego/ Baja is a branch of a larger, global organization called, Youth with a Mission. YWAM for short is an international missions organization dedicated to the mobilization of young people in spreading the gospel to every corner of the earth. To that end here at YWAM San Diego / Baja we offer a wide variety of opportunities to get involved in missions: from doing a two day build with Homes of Hope, to doing a 5 month Discipleship Training School and everything in between.
YWAM San Diego/Baja was started in October 1991 by Sean and Janet Lambert. Our vision in the beginning was to mobilize groups that wanted to come to Mexico and beyond to serve the needs of the poor, both practically and spiritually.
As this vision grew and expanded, transformational training courses were added. Today, we provide training at two campuses in ten different schools year-round, along with many seminars and conferences through the University of the Nations.
Our vision is now: Go, Serve, Transform.
YWAM San Diego/Baja exists for the purposes of furthering God’s Kingdom in Mexico and Latin America. Our Mission is to mobilize groups in bringing Biblical transformation to those in need through mercy ministry, evangelism, and discipleship programs. Through the ministry of groups, to demonstrate the love of God to the poor and needy of Latin America and invite them to a relationship with Him through His son, Jesus Christ.
What people are saying:
“I have observed, with the deepest appreciation, the effective ministry of YWAM. I have witnessed firsthand in many places across the world, its program and noted the high quality of its dedicated young people. ”
— Ted W. Engstrom, World Vision
“I know of no other organization in the Christian missionary field that has produced and continues to produce such outstanding, mature and Spirit-led young men and woman.”
— David Aikman, author/former editor of TIME
“I am a big believer in the roaring lamb’s philosophy of showing our faith through our actions, not just our words. That’s what I admire and love about YWAM – they take this philosophy world-wide. ”
— Michael W. Smith, musician
Youth With A Mission (YWAM) is an international movement of Christians from many denominations dedicated to presenting Jesus personally to this generation, to mobilizing as many as possible to help in this task, and to the training and equipping of believers for their part in fulfilling the Great Commission. As citizens of God’s kingdom, we are called to love, worship, and obey our Lord, to love and serve His Body, the Church, and to present the whole Gospel for the whole person throughout the whole world.
We of Youth With A Mission believe that the Bible is God’s inspired and authoritative word, revealing that Jesus Christ is God’s son; that people are created in God’s image; that He created us to have eternal life through Jesus Christ; that although all people have sinned and come short of God’s glory, God has made salvation possible through the death on the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ; that repentance, faith, love and obedience are fitting responses to God’s initiative of grace towards us; that God desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth; and that the Holy Spirit’s power is demonstrated in and through us for the accomplishment of Christ’s last commandment, “…Go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature.” (Mark 16:15)
A Christian Magna Carta
The following Christian Magna Carta, developed in 1981 by YWAM leaders, expresses what we believe is an individual’s basic rights implicit in the Gospel.
Because God so loved the world that He gave His own Son, everyone on earth has the right for an opportunity to:
* Hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
* Have the Bible available in his own language.
* Have a Christian fellowship nearby, to be able to meet, have biblical teaching, prayer, and worship with others in the Body of Christ.
* Have a Christian education available.
* Have the basic necessities of life: food, water, clothing, shelter, & health care.
* Lead a productive life of fulfillment spiritually, mentally, socially, emotionally, and physically.
