What the Mission Trip Will Be Like

In Belize many Mayan homes are small, unpainted with only dirt floors. A lot can be done to better the living conditions of these poor families while showing God's love. Refugees that have come in from nearby countries bring nothing but hope. We enjoy coming alongside these hard-working families and providing a better home. Something as simple as giving the house a new coat of paint can make a world of a difference. Pouring a concrete sidewalk can keep little feet off muddy paths in the rainy season.
Construction Mission Trips are for any age and skill-level. We make sure to take breaks often and drink lots of water so that missionaries are not over-worked. At the end of a hot day we stop at an ice-cream shop (with wifi) to cool off.
For anyone coming to Belize with skills as a carpenter, electrician or mason please let us know and we will make sure to provide an opportunity to put your skills to use.

Relation of Opportunity to National Church and/or Long-term Goals

BCI partners with local Spanish churches in poor villages and with a multi-cultural church (Fountain of Life) in the Mennonite Spanish Lookout. Volunteers from these churches may work alongside you. A kids VBS is usually held at a local church to familiarize families' with the local churches available to provide spiritual aid.

Participant Information, Recommendations, Requirements

Participant Age

Elementary, Jr. High, Sr. High, College, Adult, and Seniors

Eligible to Go

Individuals, Groups [max size 60], Married Couples, and Families

No training needed, however let us know what you are good at so that we can customize your week with us to maximize your effectiveness. If you are bringing your family and small children we may plan on painting a home. If you are skilled in wood-work, we may extend a small home or build an outhouse for better sanitation.

For the VBS portion of the trip we suggest you learn a few action songs to sing with the children. Prepare some arts and crafts and a few active games. Experience with large crowd control will come in handy as the Fun Day is a favorite activity and many will come.

Almost everyone in Belize speaks English so it won't be hard to communicate. Knowing Spanish will be helpful too as many older folk only speak Spanish.

Decency in clothing and language is required. We ask that all skirts, dresses or shorts to be knee-length. We do not want to jeopardize our impact opportunity by dressing inappropriately and in so doing offending the more religious.
