What the Mission Trip Will Be Like

Scotland 3 Hollywood has yet to capture the truly breathtaking landscapes of Scotland. From the rolling hills of Inverrary to the seaside cities of Dunoon, you will be amazed at the treasure that is Scotland.

It is a country that is rich in land and rich in people. When you think Scotland, you may think of redheaded, kilt-wearing, bagpipe-blowing Scots, right? Wrong. Scotland continues to be a hub for many immigrants from places like Eastern Europe and Roma (Gypsy) enclaves, to East Asia and the Middle East. This summer you’ll be able to share the Good News of Christ throughout the country as you explore the richness of her culture, her geography, and even her ancient folklores and myths (I hear the waters of Loch Ness are quite nice in the summer months…).

Ministry --While you and your team will be working in several different cities during your stay in Scotland, your ministry and focus will all center around the same thing: building meaningful relationships. Whether that’s in a neighborhood with over 50 languages represented, or a seaside hamlet hanging with the village’s teenagers, you’ll share about who Jesus is and what He’s done with your newfound friends. This will be done through Holiday Clubs, hosting “drop-in” youth clubs near local coffee shops, or hitting the cobblestoned streets of Glasgow and being intentional in conversations with locals and tourists alike.

Adventure--While you’re schedule will be full of ministry, there will also be plenty of time for exploration on the Scotland mission trip. Hike forested trails in the Scottish Highlands, a mountainous region in the north complete with sweeping valleys of green pastures butting up against expansive lochs (insert mythical Nessie reference here). Or take to exploring the narrow and winding cobblestone streets of medieval cities like Glasgow and Edinburgh, popping into classy and bookish coffee shops that make you wish you owned a tweed jacket and were reading something distinguished, like Sherlock Holmes. If that still doesn’t tickle your fancy, what about seeing the iconic Big Ben, the Tower Bridge, Buckingham Palace, or surfing the Underground during your time of debriefing in London? There is so much to see and so much to do! An amazing adventure awaits you. Let’s go!

Experience Culture --Due to its own long and rich history, as well as the more recent influx of immigrants from around the world, Scotland has become a melting pot of culture. The streets are a colorful mix of plaid kilts and South Asian turbans, cobblestoned streets lined with quintessential Scottish pubs and curry restaurants, and street performers competing for your attention in the shade of church spires and castle turrets. You’ll understand why William Wallace (think Braveheart) fought so ardently for the country he loved as you come to understand how unique and rich Scotland really is.

Relation of Opportunity to National Church and/or Long-term Goals

Your ministry in Scotland will be defined and organized by local missionaries who are our ministry partners. They, and their Christian cohorts, will follow up on the relationships you initiate and disciple new converts.
