Internship position title: Midwife/Nurse/Doctor 

Name of ministry: Hope Alive Clinic (transitioning to Hope Alive Healthcare). Currently Hope Alive Clinic is under the umbrella of KIDS International Ministries.

Starting Date: Internships of 3+ weeks can be scheduled year-round with approval.

Mission Statement for Ministry: To share the hope of Jesus with all who enter our doors as we minister by offering holistic, evidence-based, and compassionate care. To be a learning and teaching community, where knowledge and resources are freely shared in order to improve positive health outcomes across the Philippines.

1. What are some ministry tasks that you want the intern to accomplish while serving with you?

Assisting with prenatal check ups, including fundal height, fetal heart rates, vital signs. 

Assisting with postpartum check ups, assessing the mother and baby.

Generally interacting with patients and showing them compassionate care, such as praying for them at the bedside.    

2. What are some key lessons from your ministry and walk with the Lord that you want to impart to the interns to help them as they consider their own individual call to missions or vocational ministry?

We believe that where God calls, He equips and provides. Being in the place where God has called you is a beautiful place to be, and it's truly a great privilege to serve in full-time ministry. 

3. What would a typical day look like?

We run prenatal check ups most mornings, with afternoon clinics covering postpartum checks and new prenatal admissions. There is also a Family Planning clinic on Fridays. Clinic is generally running from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with midwives on duty 24/7 for labor and births. Each Clinic session starts with a Bible-based devotion, and then we run an educational lesson related to pregnancy and birth. There are also opportunities to join in with the wider KIDS International Ministries activities such as children’s home, school, youth discipleship, community Bible studies, and more. 

4. Please list specific skills an intern may expect to develop by the time the internship is completed.

• Growth in confidence in antenatal and postpartum check ups.

• Being able to deliver babies using gentle birthing techniques.

• Understanding of cross-cultural barriers and why we seek to remove them.

• Understanding of providing healthcare in a limited resourced community and the difference that makes to decisions.

• Awareness that only Jesus can bring light into hopelessness, and that we are blessed to be used by Him to do that.
