What the Mission Trip Will Be Like
Our summer team members work together to make our camps memorable, fun, safe, and growing experiences for the kids that come to Eagle Village. Campers primarily have severe emotional imparments, experienced significant trauma, and spent time in foster care, or have been adopted. Our summer camps serve as early intervention, skill builders, and additional support for kids that would struggle in a traditional camp setting. We have all the fun of a regular camp like tackling the climbing wall or high ropes course, swimming, campfires, and hiking through the woods; but we also offer kids extra help working through their emotions, taking responsibility, and developing healthy relationships with others.
Summer team members are responsible for constant supervision of campers, helping with activities, cheering kids on, hosting visitors, occasional supervision in the resident program, being an example of how to respect self and others, and maintaining the firm but loving discipline taught during training.
Cabin Leaders stay in cabins with their campers (ages 7-17), leading camp experiences on-site.
Wilderness Trip Leaders lead multiple-overnight backpacking trips on the Manistee River and North Country Trail.
Health Officers supervise the administration of medications and first aid, and provide administrative support to the camp team.
We frequently work with team members and their universities to achieve internship or field placement credit during the summer season. Interns come from a variety of programs including: Social Work, Criminal Justice, Education, Family Studies, Youth Ministry, Therapeutic Recreation, Psychology, Hotel/Hospitality Management, Non-profit and Business Management, Communications, etc.

Relation of Opportunity to National Church and/or Long-term Goals
Eagle Village provides camps and intervention programs for youth who, because of trauma, abuse and neglect, would struggle to be successful in other camp environments and require intensive emotional and behavioral supports. During their time at Eagle Village, they learn about their value and potential through a biblical Christian worldview, and develop new skills to support healthier behaviors. Summer mission team members are able to model healthy relationships, and show youth how the Gospel can be a source of hope and healing for them long after they leave camp at Eagle Village. In addition, team members provide encouragement and support to year-round staff who are often impacted themselves by the challenges of working with this special population. Team members offer a boost through prayer and conversation, and as they serve together during the summer season.
