What the Mission Trip Will Be Like

After your training in the heat and humidity of Boot Camp, you will be ready to serve the Lord in Brazil, a vast South American country which stretches from the Amazon Basin in the north to vineyards and the massive Iguaçu Falls in the south.

Work & Evangelism Team

Dates: June 11 – July 29, 2022

Teen Trip – Ages 13-19 (Adults may inquire about leadership opportunities.)

Travel: After completing training at the Lord’s Boot Camp, you will bus to the Orlando International Airport and board a flight that takes you out across the Bahamas, the Caribbean Sea, Suriname, French Guyana and the Equator, before arriving in Fortaleza, Brazil. From here, a connecting flight along the Atlantic coast takes you to Belem, located at the mouth of the Amazon River. A three-hour bus ride takes you to your project site in Juquiri, located on the banks of the Moju River.

Ministry: You will continue construction on a church and Sunday School classrooms for the local believers, using clay bricks, reinforced concrete and metal roofing. There will be opportunities to share the Gospel through open-air and street evangelism using dramas, puppets, songs and testimonies.

Adventure: Put your bartering skills to use as you shop for your summer souvenirs at Ver-o-Peso, an open market in Belem and visit the Forte do Presépio, which guarded Belém in the colonial days.

Relation of Opportunity to National Church and/or Long-term Goals

With 50+ years of experience in long and short term missions ministry, Teen Missions has developed a strong relationship with the national church. Teen Missions has ministry bases in 22 countries where local youth from the national churches receive training and national church ministries receive work and evangelism projects. With over 300 full-time staff members (mostly nationals), we have a long-term presence on the ground long after the short-term team departs. This ensures that the valuable work and evangelism ministries of our summer teams are woven into the daily year-round efforts of the local host effecting lasting change and ministry fruit. Most of our teams are hosted by our own national full-time staff missionaries. Other teams are hosted by national churches and local ministries with whom, in most cases, we’ve been working with for years (if not decades).

Training debriefing
TRAINING – Your summer begins at our rugged 250-acre training facility in Merritt Island, FL. This two-week primitive camp acquaints youth and their leaders with realistic conditions of the mission field. Young missionaries learn teamwork and unity on the daily timed Obstacle Course, and experience each training activity as a team. All teams receive classes in Bible and evangelism, as well as church and open air presentation skills (music, testimony sharing, drama, puppets), and also spiritual and practical survival skills. Each team will also receive training relative to their specific project (construction basics, TESL-Teaching English as Second Language, motorcycle riding, first aid, reading glass assessment, choir, clowning, video/film, etc.). Trained adult leaders maintain strong discipline at Boot Camp and on the field. Boot Camp climaxes with a candlelight Commissioning Service under the Big Top tent, when youth and leaders depart for their particular projects. DEBRIEF – After the summer, a few teams at a time gather for several days of blessing and fellowship, and renewing friendships made at Boot Camp. There are sessions on how to come down from a spiritually high mountain, how to get involved in the local church and youth groups at home, and how to share about your summer mission trip. Each team will get to share with the other teams what God has done during their exciting summer of service. There will be one day for sightseeing and shopping.
