What the Mission Trip Will Be Like

Students at a work site in Sioux Falls, SD

ThereforeGo Ministries provides week-long high school service trips and other faith-forming events for middle and high school age students. Each year we partner with churches to host SERVE events in their local communities, which are five to seven-day youth mission trips that send students out to care for and restore their world in an environment where they’ll encounter the concepts of justice and missional living. More than just a short service trip, SERVE is a faith-forming experience where the communities, congregations and students involved all experience lasting transformation.

Sioux Falls SERVE

As the largest city in South Dakota, Sioux Falls offers a welcoming atmosphere and big city entertainment with a small-town feel. Some prominent features of the city of Sioux Falls are its beautiful parks and bike trails. Sioux Falls maintains more than 70 parks and greenways spread throughout the city as well as 29 miles of paved path for biking, walking, jogging, and running. Sioux Falls has also spent a lot of energy revitalizing its downtown area which is home to many great shops and restaurants as well as a beautiful sculpture walk and riverfront areas.

SERVE Participants will be working with various ministry organizations in Sioux Falls that minister to the needs of these immigrant, native, and refugee families of our community. Our worksites will include:

-Paint-a-thon through Habitat for Humanity

-Landscaping/light construction

-Food pantry

-Repairing wheelchairs that will then be sent to bless disabled individuals overseas

-Packing backpacks for underprivileged students

-Serving the most vulnerable members of our community through ministries serving the homeless and the disabled

-Other various and exciting projects!

Each adult leader receives the Leaders Guide one month before the trip so they can review the theme material and small group discussion outlines. During the trip: the Speaker, Worship Leader and the Spiritual Life Coordinator from the host church work with youth leaders to weave together the entire experience in light of the Gospel. Personal devotions, small group discussion material and debriefing questions for the work day are all included in the Leaders Guide and discussed in daily Leader Meetings. Post Trip: ThereforeGo Ministries has worked hard with church leaders to develop a post trip plan that helps students think through the spiritual impact of the week and integrate what they've learned in to every day life. The post trip plan is in the Leaders Guide as well as the Digital Resource Box.
