What the Mission Trip Will Be Like
The Dominican Republic shares the island of Hispaniola with Haiti and is home to about 9 million people. While the Dominican Republic boasts a stronger economy than their island neighbor, there are still thousands of Dominicans who do not have access to clean water or education. While Christianity has a strong presence on the island, there is a real struggle with actively living out the faith, and this can sometimes be compounded by the lack of resources and education. The most fruitful and effective ministries in the DR are holistic, those that combine evangelism with education and development.
The vision of our ministry partner in Pimentel is to transform a city through the Gospel message, by developing leaders starting when they are kids, knowing that they are the key of transforming a generation. They are also actively transforming the community by implementing solutions to community challenges, i.e. the lack of clean water, food shortages / sustainability, limited access to primary healthcare, and the absence of technical and vocational job training for the poor and marginalized in Pimentel, Dominican Republic.
