What the Mission Trip Will Be Like

Mexico - House Build.jpeg

We Need Your Help as we Serve the people of Jamaica

Jamaica is the second poorest country in the Caribbean – a fact often overlooked by tourists. Just miles away from tourist destinations, villages are living in deep poverty. Families are unable to provide for children with special needs, so they are sent to a group home. Youth often lack meaningful relationships with adults who are willing to pour into their lives. Families are being separated due to a lack of sufficient housing. This island nation has significant need hiding under its beautiful exterior.

Service Opportunities in Montego Bay, Jamaica:

We partner with several organizations in and around Montego Bay. Below are details from several:

The various children’s homes we partner with are home to kids who are unable to live with their family for a variety of reasons. In each situation, we’ve been allowed the honor of partnering with those who care for children who may otherwise be forgotten. We believe in these homes and have been repeatedly blessed to witness the love that their employees have for the children.

The Boys & Girls Club is a safe space for kids to spend their afternoon in an area of the city where they might otherwise get into trouble. The club offers a variety of programs and activities, both formal and informal, including sports, skills training, music lessons, homework help and religious nights. Teams get to join in and hang out with kids through planned games and activities as well as organic interaction, with the goal of developing meaningful relationships.

One of our Jamaican partners works solely with local churches and community leaders to identify families needing housing in order to regain custody of their children or to keep their children out of state care. Their mission is to rebuild homes in order to keep families together. Adding a room, repairing a roof or rebuilding a portion of a house may be the only thing standing between a child and their parent. Teams willing to work and provide the necessary funding have the opportunity to help bridge that gap.

One of our partner pastors, Pastor Campbell, has connected with several local schools by sharing daily morning devotions. He attends a different school each day of the week and is passionate about seeing young people grow in their relationship with the Lord. We love joining him when we bring teams to Jamaica.

Training debriefing

Before your mission experience, Bold Hope will prepare you with resources to gather your team, fundraising ideas and suggestions, a complete itinerary, a Bold Hope Mission Consultant, cultural and medical information, help with securing plane tickets, a packing list, a community needs list, information on acquiring a passport, and many other pre-trip helps. We also provide pre-trip training materials and slide presentations. We can help you craft specialized training, including information on cultural challenges, evangelizing in love, and logistical specifics that may interest those who choose to serve with you.

At the end of the week, you are invited to debrief the week as a group with our team on the ground. We also provide resources so that you can continue this debriefing when you return home. During debrief, we encourage reflection on how God moved during the week as well as what God may be calling you into as a result of the week in ministry. This debrief time is low-key, yet powerful. We present opportunities to appreciate others, sponsor children, serve on future trips, and more during this time! Our hope is that this week on mission creates excitement for you or your team to travel home with a mission to have an impact there as well.
