What the Mission Trip Will Be Like

Have you been looking for the perfect trip that combines construction and caring for children? We have the trip for you!

In the fall of 2019, Hurricane Dorian struck the Bahamas with a vengeance, leaving behind destruction for those who live there. Because of the hurricane, schools were closed and many services were stopped; families were forced to move away. Now a year later, there is still a vast need for cleanup and construction. Many plans were interrupted by Covid and the shutdowns that followed.

The Hurricane Dorian-affected islands (mostly Great Abaco and Grand Bahama) left many people displaced. They are now trying to survive and temporarily manage their lives elsewhere. The vast majority of the 120,000 people that lived on the devastated islands have now fled to either the United States or other islands in the Bahamas.

After hearing of the need, Bold Hope decided to get involved and is asking for your help. We need individuals, families and teams of 8-60 people to join us for a week of service. We will be working to do hurricane cleanup, build new buildings, and repair those that are damaged.

Our partner pastors in Marsh Harbour are passionate about seeing their communities restored. Whether it be homes, churches, businesses or schools, they are actively working to provide physical help to people whose livelihoods were impacted by Hurricane Dorian. Through physical labor, donation distribution and various community outreach programs they are coming alongside and supporting those directly affected by the destruction. They also desire to meet the spiritual needs of those whom they serve. With most schools shut down, churches in the area are seeking to engage local children and youth in meaningful ways.

Service Opportunities:

  • Children's ministry
  • Feeding program support and service
  • Sports with kids or adults
  • Outreach using arts, music, and drama
  • Construction of homes, buildings, and a school- both simple and complex construction available

Sample Itinerary (subject to change):

  • Day 1 – Arrive at airport, travel to ministry location, learn about ministry
  • Day 2 – 5/6  – Awareness and outreach efforts, church service, Hurricane Cleanup, Construction Build Work, recreational time late in afternoon/evening
  • Day 6 – Some groups choose more service, while others enjoy a beach, a historic site, or a waterfall (many options available)
  • Day 7 – Say goodbyes, and fly home

Accomodations, Meals, and Travel:

  • Pricing varies – much of it dependent on housing – sleeping on the floor of a church is cheaper than sleeping at a resort
  • All Meals are included, a mixture of local and American food is served
  • Travel to/from the country is not included in the price
  • Most of our teams use our travel service for plane tickets, reach out for pricing if you are interested

Relation of Opportunity to National Church and/or Long-term Goals

We have been invited by the local church to join in their disaster relief work with the community. We work alongside the congregation, resident missionaries, and the area Christian school. The work you perform during your week on the ground will enable the church to serve their community more deeply in the coming months and years.

Training debriefing

Before your mission experience, Bold Hope will prepare you with resources to gather your team, fundraising ideas and suggestions, a complete itinerary, a Bold Hope Mission Consultant, cultural and medical information, help with securing plane tickets, a packing list, a community needs list, information on acquiring a passport, and many other pre-trip helps. We also provide pre-trip training materials and slide presentations. We can help you craft specialized training, including information on cultural challenges, evangelizing in love, and logistical specifics that may interest those who choose to serve with you.

At the end of the week, you are invited to debrief the week as a group with our team on the ground. We also provide resources so that you can continue this debriefing when you return home. During debrief, we encourage reflection on how God moved during the week as well as what God may be calling you into as a result of the week in ministry. This debrief time is low key, yet powerful. We present opportunities to appreciate others, sponsor children, serve on future trips, and more during this time! Our hope is that this week on mission creates excitement for your team to travel home with a mission to have an impact there as well.
