If you can speak English and be a friend, you can make an eternal impact in Taiwan through ministry in a local church context. The chance to practice speaking English with a native speaker is still a draw to people in Taiwan. Through this avenue, you will have many opportunities to build relationships that often lead to open doors for evangelism. We serve children at risk in a poor, rural community that is less than 1% Christian through relational evangelism. Come and experience what living missionally looks like!

What the Mission Trip Will Be Like

If you can speak English and be a friend, you can make an eternal impact in Taiwan through ministry in a local church context. The chance to practice speaking English with a native speaker is still a draw to people in Taiwan. Through this avenue, you will have many opportunities to build relationships that often lead to open doors for evangelism. Requirements:
*Must be a US Citizen or US Permanent Resident.

  • Spiritually: A growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Passionate about God’s Word. Daily devotional life and consistent Christian life. Spiritually mature.
  • Personally: Flexible and able to live with some ambiguity as ministry takes shape. Must be self-initiating, self-driven, self-motivated, and self-disciplined, humble, teachable, willing to adapt to the Taiwanese culture, willing to step out of their comfort zone. Able to live in a small town with few English-speakers, but where most people will be friendly to Westerners.
  • Ministry: Willingness to serve sacrificially. Good interpersonal skills. Can articulate their faith; Willing to work among a people who have historically been resistant to the gospel. A desire to learn how to effectively share the Gospel in a multi-cultural ministry context. Chinese is helpful, but not necessary.

Responsibilities:
Serving Taiwanese children-at-risk through English conversation as well as other areas related to your areas of gifting and expertise for the sake of introducing Jesus and making disciples. This involves helping with a weekend youth program, teaching conversational English classes, building relationships, serving in a local church, helping with outreach camps. This could be through teaching English at the elementary school, tutoring older kids after school and on weekends, and meeting kids where they are for the sake of Jesus.
There could also be opportunities to begin a new ministry to reach out to Filipino contract workers in this area. There are also ministry opportunities in an already established church in a nearby community. There are other ministry possibilities according to the intern's experience, gifts, and passion.

Language Used: Chinese, English

Living Environment:
You will be living in a bedroom off the ministry center above the house of the hosting missionaries. There are very simple meal preparation facilities. It is in a very small, very quiet community. The bus that gets to the train and to anywhere on the island is about a 7-minute walk. There is a small town about a 20-minute walk/10-minute bike ride that has almost anything you need.

Working Environment:
You will be working outside your bedroom door in the ministry center and in the village which is right downstairs. The intern will also be able to help with the ministry of The Grace Place.

Relation of Opportunity to National Church and/or Long-term Goals

The WorldVenture team in Taiwan is committed to cooperating with a national church association to evangelize and plant new churches among the 97 percent of Taiwanese who do not know Christ. Although recent efforts have focused on Taiwan’s large cities, there is a desire to take the gospel to smaller areas that WorldVenture has yet to enter. Programs for evangelism and outreach at the Morrison Academy, the CB Theological Seminary, the Bamboo Valley Bible Camp and the CB Literature Center are ongoing as well. WorldVenture has been working in Taiwan since 1952.

Mission Trip Offered By WorldVenture

Billions of people don’t know Jesus. We’re not okay with that.

More than words, they are a reminder on the wall of our main office of why we do what we do. Since 1943, God has used thousands of WorldVenture workers and partners to impact millions with the good news.
We plant churches, build clinics, educate children, train leaders, provide disaster relief, combat injustice, foster the arts, and serve the poor with economic development…in Jesus name and to make disciples.
We recruit, train, and send disciples of Jesus throughout the world who sense Gods call to give their lives to share the gospel with people who have yet to hear it. And we partner with multitudes of Christ-following disciples in engaging the world for gospel impact.
