What the Mission Trip Will Be Like

“Game Reserve Project … The Place of Gathering!’’

The Volunteer Project is designed to offer volunteers the opportunity to be involved in all conservation related projects on the reserve.

During your stay, you may see yourselves as "assistant conservation managers" as all of the work done by you will improve the quality of the reserve and the data collected by you will be utilized by Kwantu management in making important conservation decisions for the reserve. As a volunteer you therefore derive a good deal of satisfaction from your work, as your efforts directly contributes to improving the reserve.

While getting involved in every aspect of hands-on conservation management on the reserve, you will learn many conservation skills and have the experience of a lifetime. To top it all off, we have a brilliant community outreach programme. Our volunteers assist at a local rural farm school by providing food prepared by our chefs. Come and make a real difference and have fun doing so!

Volunteer programs begin on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month. Volunteers can choose from 1 week to 24 weeks.

Prices include:

• uniform

•Orientation and a brief tour of Port Elizabeth on arrival

•Volunteer starter pack which includes essential volunteer information

*They exclude flights, travel insurance and visas.

Your home while you are with us is situated in the historical village of Sibury which is within the Game Reserve itself. The village is situated near Port-elizabeth along the banks of the Bushmens River.

Volunteers must be 18 years or older, unless accompanied by an adult. No specific skills or qualifications are necessary besides a reasonable level of fitness, a willingness to help at the Game park. All volunteers must have adequate travel insurance.

This Project is solely for those volunteers interested in having a truly African experience in Africa. Volunteers have various duties such as conservation, eradication of alien plants, caring for orphaned animals such as lion cubs, assisting in elephant training, assisting in game captures, feeding of predators, game counts, interacting with guests, accompanying the rangers on game drives and much, much more.

Volunteers will be housed in a dorm structure with its own dining area, lounge area, kitchen area, fireplace, and entertainment facilities. The accommodation is situated within the village located within the reserve where you will be under the supervision of capable volunteer programme coordinators. Breakfast items will be supplied to you by the Game Reserve. Lunch and dinner will be provided to you at your Kwantu Kubs Quarters. If you will be out in the bush for lunch, requests can be made for packed lunches depending on your location. These must be made beforehand.

Volunteers will be met at the Port Elizabeth International airport and transported to their accommodation in Sibury. Orientation will take place on the Monday during the day once you have settled in.

Excursions will consist of trips to surrounding areas and students can enjoy activities such as hiking, whale watching, bungee jumping, water sport activities at their own cost.
