What the Mission Trip Will Be Like
The Project is based in Muizenberg, only 30 minutes from Cape Town City Centre. Muizenberg beach is one of Cape Town’s most magnificent, Pristine white beaches, and is renowned for the most consistent waves in Cape Town. The Project is based next to the beach in a Large Surf Outreach Building, this building is fully equipped to cater for all the children's needs: Surfing, Soccer, Education, African Drumming, Library, Literacy and Sports Gear. We are based in the Muizenberg Sea side Village close to: shops and internet access (free wi-fire). We teach Surfing and Educational Programs to Many Less Privileged children from Capricorn Township who come to the Project from just 15 minutes away from Muizenberg. These children have a great need for one on one attention. They come from very less Privileged back grounds. Some of the Children are Orphans and others live with their relatives. Our aim is to add HOPE AND LOVE into their lives. We aim to Improve the Children's Education levels at School through creating a sports platform for the children to attend in the afternoons (once they have completed their Home work at our Centre).
At the Outreach Program, we assist the children with their home work, Prayer with them and teach them to surf. We use Surfing as a reward for the children once they have completed their home work each day. As a volunteer, we really need your help with Praying with the children, assisting them with their home work and Sharing Jesus Love with them. Our Hearts are to Impact children's lives and see their lives restored, bringing Hope and Practical answers to the children and their Families. Our Aim is to see the children and Youth come into a transforming relationship with Jesus Christ. We would love for you to Join in on this vision. The Street children's Surfing Project was founded by Mandy Weschta in 2007, since then Many surf schools started teaching the less Privileged children to Surf in Muizenberg. We are so happy that so many children are having the opportunity to Surf their way to Success.
We require that Volunteers must be 18 years or older. We also require that you are able to swim. If you are below 18 years old then we will require a letter of consent from your Parents. No specific skills or qualifications are necessary besides a love for children, a willingness to help and a reasonable level of Fitness.
The children we teach are aged between 6-16 years old. The Project runs from Monday to Friday from 11:00 am - 5.00 pm. (You will have weekends free to explore). The Surfing Project gives you the opportunity to build rewarding relationships with the children. The children can speak English although their home language is Afrikaans or Xhosa. Volunteer’s mornings are spent learning to Surf or Teaching Surfing lessons to the children alongside the coordinator. In the afternoons we need help with assisting the children the following:
Assisting with teaching Surfing and swimming lessons to the children (You will also get to learn to Surf in the Mornings).
Assisting the children with reading and their Home work
Soccer program on the beach after Surfing
You are most welcome to do bible study with the children and Pray with them
Teaching the children African Drumming (and learning yourself).
Assisting with Making sandwiches for the children.
Projects will vary based on your skills and interests and the present needs of the program co-ordinator at the time.
Your role as volunteer is very important in changing and shaping these children’s lives. This project is loads of fun and your efforts will be greatly appreciated. Any old clothes, shoes and blankets are a welcome donation to the community. They are always in need of these.

It is an advantage if you love the outdoors, yet its not neccessary. A love for children and a heart to serve is needed for this project. We really need volunteers to pray with the children and bring them word to them. This is greatly lacking in Muizenberg area.
Please have a look at our links for our Cape town surfing project:
This project mainly caters for Volunteers that want to come and disciple children. The Surfing outreach has a huge need for volunteers to come and help sharing the love of Jesus with the children, praying for them and reading the bible to them. It will be a huge advantage if this is one of your strengths. Our accommodation is a lovely house in Fish hoek. (the house does cater for Christians and people growing in the faith). The house is mixed, not just Christians. If you want to join a strong Christian leadership project, then we recommend our Oyster bay location: https://www.volunteerinsouthafrica.co.uk/port-elizabeth-2.html
