What the Mission Trip Will Be Like

El Salvador - Crowley volunteers and CasaDeMiPadre

El Salvador is the smallest Central American country and the only one without a coastline on the Caribbean Sea. With a population of about six million, it is one of the most densely populated countries in the world, with some 700,000 Salvadorans in need of decent, adequate housing.

An estimated 30.7 percent of the population lives below the poverty line, while over 40 percent of the rural population lives in homes with dirt floors and impermanent wall materials. Many Salvadoran families continue to struggle to survive while living in dilapidated housing subject to natural disasters such as flooding, mudslides, and earthquakes.

Working with our local Covenant Partner, Gente Ayudando Gente, the local city government, and an organization called New Story, we are partnering with families in various communities around the country to move them into simple, decent homes built on land that they will truly own. The families become not just recipients, but donors as they work alongside the volunteers and builders and also pay the costs of construction forward on a no-profit, no-interest loan.

Our volunteer teams will travel to one of our build sites in El Salvador for 1-2 weeks and help with the construction process. Word is tough but rewarding, and can involve anything from digging foundations to painting walls. It’s like no other feeling in the world to look at your week’s worth of hard work and know that the effort you put in will help a family get their own decent home, many for the first time in their lives. Come join us to empower local families and make a long-term impact in El Salvador!

Mission Trip Offered By The Fuller Center for Housing

The Fuller Center for Housing is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry dedicated to eliminating poverty housing worldwide. By forming partnerships with local organizations, The Fuller Center provides the structure, guidance and support that communities need to build and repair homes for the impoverished among them.

We operate through local Covenant Partner organizations, which are volunteer led and driven. Visiting missions teams will have the opportunity to assist one of our Covenant Partners in the U.S. or Internationally to help build or renovate a home for a family in need in their community.
