What the Mission Trip Will Be Like
While visually beautiful, the Philippines is home to deep poverty and injustice. Our goal is to immerse ourselves in their world: to serve and encourage those who struggle with poverty and strengthen those who have risen up to fight it.
In Thailand, you’ll continue your ministry by loving on and serving orphaned kids who have been physically or emotionally abandoned by a generation they should have been able to trust.
Ministry–Much of the ministry in Manila will be focused on caring for impoverished families. You’ll be partnering with local churches hosting a kid’s camp, language learning programs, a toddlers feeding program, and local youth outreaches.
The orphanage in Chiang Mai is not a place you go to shed a few tears and feel sorry for the kids. Our ministry partner wants you to get into their lives and build relationships. Your care has the potential to leave a powerful legacy of love and healing.
Adventure–This is going to be a team on the move! Most days will find you venturing to new locations to do outreach. You’ll explore much of Manila and surrounding mountain villages by Jeepney (a vehicle that looks like a Jeep Wrangler and a school bus got married and had a baby), eat the local food, shop the local markets, and make local friends.
Ditto for Thailand! But also add jetting around Bangkok on a Tuk-Tuk.
Experience Culture–The culture of the Philippines is a blend of East and West, with a heavy Spanish influence as a result of having been colonized by Spain. Filipinos themselves are adaptable, highly relational, and will welcome you in with great conversation and curiosity.
Most Thai’s are Buddhist and also strongly revere the King of Thailand. The culture is laid back, casual, and Thai’s are some of the most hospitable people you’ll ever meet!
Relation of Opportunity to National Church and/or Long-term Goals
We have the awesome opportunity to work alongside Barnabas House Ministries and their affiliates. This ministry has been working in the Philippines for decades and has developed a strong reputation for bringing help and resources to Filipinos living in deep poverty and empowering them to stand tall and walk in the truth of the Gospel. Their team, mostly made up of local Filipino believers, will be working with us every step of the way.
In Thailand, you’ll be working with Bobby, an American expat who has devoted his life to kids. His heart for marginalized children is going to challenge, convict, and inspire you!
