What the Mission Trip Will Be Like
“Share your Love and Care with Underprivileged Children in Jeffrey's Bay, World re-known for our beautiful beaches and surfing spots"
This project is all inclusive with Meals and Accommodation.
Enjoy your time adding Hope and love into Children's lives whilst living close to the beach in beautiful South Africa. The Leaders at the child care say: "We saw the need at our local township to teach life skills to the children, so we decided to come alongside the children and invest in their lives showing them the love of Christ and teaching them life skills. The children that we work with come from very poor backgrounds. We encourage the children and help within the school and child care centre with activities for the children. We saw that the Childcare Centres needed assistance so we decided to come alongside the Care Centre and school within the Sea side Town of Jeffreys bay and assist them. These Centers were started out of a desperate need for education, parenting and caring. Many of the children were left alone to care for themselves or were being looked after by members of the community whilst their parents worked. Some of the children have no parents and are orphaned. We encourage the children and help within the school and child care center with activities for the Children. As a Volunteer you will assist the teacher in teaching the children new skills, Bible Study, Pray and worship, arts and crafts and helping with general activities. The children really need 1 on 1 interaction. If you want to prepare a lesson or Bible study with the children, then you are welcome to liaise with the classroom Teacher to do so.
When Joining our Location in Jeffrey's bay, we encourage you to bring your God given talents, and share this with the children in need. Please discuss your talents with the leader on arrival so she can organize for you to help in the areas of your talents. You will have the Opportunity to get involved in extra projects we run (at no extra cost). The Center runs the following projects that you can get involved with:
*Child care Projects
*School to school Music and Evangelism and Preaching
*Teaching Projects - Reading, Mathematics, Science and Bible study
*Sports with the children
*Counseling children that need 1 on 1 counseling
*Church on Sundays, we all attend Victory Church in Jeffrey's Bay.
*House to house Evangelism in the Townships
*Arts and Drama at the schools
*Visiting high schools in Jeffreys Bay and Surrounding area
*Building Projects - helping fix peoples homes only when we have funding to do so.
Please do let us know on arrival during Orientation, what you expect from your time here with us? and what your talents are. Its in our best interest for you to have the best time whilst you are with us and we want you to feel like your time has impacted the Less Privileged people to the fullest whilst you are with us.
This program runs daily – Monday to Friday Except for school Holidays. During the school holidays you are most welcome to get involved in our other activities within the Community. We help our at our smaller child care centers during school holidays.
Please note school holidays are: 29th March - 9th April, 23rd June - 16th July, 27th Sept - 8th October, 11th December - 16th January, the schools are closed on these dates, however our other projects do still run on these dates, our volunteers help at the smaller child care centers and doing house to house visits over school holidays. Our project runs all year round.
Here are the links for the project via our website:
The Project is based in Jeffrey's bay, World re-known for the best surf spots in the world. (The billabong surfing pro is held here every year July). Enjoy staying in a breath-taking beautiful seaside Village, situated in the Eastern Cape. This Project involves working at the school assisting with pre school children ages 1-6 year olds in the Mornings and then learning to Surf and teaching the less privileged children to Surf in the afternoons. We also welcome volunteers that already know how to surf. The projects are situated in Pelsrus Jeffrey's Bay township. Our project head leader named Tosh will be walking with you daily to the projects. You can also catch a local taxi for $1.50 return daily if you prefer. The Surfing project is a 5 minute walk from our Accommodation (Ywam base) and the child care center is a 15 minute walk away. We all walk to the project daily because it is close by. The Beach is also right near to the project alongside Jeffrey's Bay village. In your lunch hour you can visit the billabong factory shops and visit local Coffee shops near by. Or you can head to the beach. There are also great places to eat in the village and lots of Banks and shops etc.
Volunteers must be 18 years or older, unless accompanied by an adult. If you are 17, then we require a letter of consent from your parents for you to join our Project. No specific skills or qualifications are necessary besides a love for children and a willingness to help. All volunteers must have adequate travel Hospital insurance.
The children at the child care center are aged between 1 to 6 years old and the children at our Surf school are ages 6-17 year old's. We are also reaching out to less privileged adults in the area when we do house to house family visits. This Project gives you the opportunity to build rewarding relationships with the children and to share God's love with them. The center aims at providing excellence in child care by working hand in hand with the community and all those who are willing to offer their time and help. The child care center is short staffed due to the large volume of children in need. You will experience the satisfaction of watching these children progress and develop whilst assisting in teaching the children with new skills. Your role as volunteer is very important in changing and shaping these children’s lives, and consequently the lives of future generations in South Africa. Most of The children can speak English, so the children will be able to understand you. The children's home language is English, Afrikaans and Xhosa.
When Joining our Location in Jeffrey's bay, we ask for you to let us know your talents, so you can help with what you are Good at.
Here are some of our projects and what the children need help with:
