What the Mission Trip Will Be Like

Philippines

Mobilize Christian students and church members to reach out to international students, welcoming them and building relationships in order to share Christ’s love with them. This opportunity is specifically for someone who has had cross-cultural experience ministering among international students.

Requirements:
*Must be a US Citizen or US Permanent Resident.

  • Because intern(s) would be helping to train Filipino believers how to develop redemptive relationships with students from India, the Middle East and Buddhist-background Asia, a good grasp of major worldviews and how to bridge to them with the Gospel would be a great advantage.
  • English is fine, though depending on the length of the internship, some Filipino language and culture study may be required during the first month on the field to facilitate communication and avoid cross-cultural misunderstandings.
  • While we are asking that interns come with a certain amount of expertise, they must also come as learners with regard to Filipino culture, and be willing to adapt what they already know about international student ministry to the local context, which is quite different from the U.S.
  • The intern must be prayerful and dependent on the Holy Spirit's leading, and encourage the same in those being discipled and trained for this ministry.
  • At least 2 years of college is required.

Responsibilities:
Negotiable to some degree, but should be able to motivate local believers by sharing illustrations and examples from personal experience with international students, disciple others in befriending international students, open conversation about spiritual things with international friends, and lead and train others to lead discovery Bible studies.

Living Environment:
Lodging will depend on whether interns are single, married, or a team. One or two single interns would probably live with host workers. We would probably look for a house-sitting opportunity or inexpensive apartment for a couple, if long-term; mission Guest House if short-term.

Working Environment:
Church(es) and university campus(es)

Relation of Opportunity to National Church and/or Long-term Goals

The WorldVenture team in the Philippines works primarily in four areas:

1) Educating and discipling third-culture kids (MK’s)
2) Compassion and Community Development ministries among the unloved – the urban poor, the tribal poor, and people rescued from trafficking
3) Church planting among the unchurched segments of the population
4) Training and mobilizing leaders and cross-cultural workers for the Church in Asia (Philippines and other countries)

The team partners with other organizations in pursuit of our vision of seeing individuals and communities transformed by the Lord Jesus Christ. We seek to make disciples of Jesus Christ among the unreached, unchurched and unloved segments of society, and to equip believers to carry on the work of growing the Kingdom of God in Asia. It is our desire to be catalysts of spiritual renewal and gospel movements.

WorldVenture has been in the Philippines since 1948.

Training debriefing
All interns will be assigned a pre-field mentor who will help coach them through the pre, on, and post-field journey. This typically involves connecting by phone or Skype every few weeks to walk through basic pre-field ministry topics like raising support, safety, ministering cross-culturally ,etc. as well as providing prayer support and guidance through logistics. The intern's mentor will also setup a time to debrief and follow-up after their internship.

Mission Trip Offered By WorldVenture

Billions of people don’t know Jesus. We’re not okay with that.

More than words, they are a reminder on the wall of our main office of why we do what we do. Since 1943, God has used thousands of WorldVenture workers and partners to impact millions with the good news.
We plant churches, build clinics, educate children, train leaders, provide disaster relief, combat injustice, foster the arts, and serve the poor with economic development…in Jesus name and to make disciples.
We recruit, train, and send disciples of Jesus throughout the world who sense Gods call to give their lives to share the gospel with people who have yet to hear it. And we partner with multitudes of Christ-following disciples in engaging the world for gospel impact.
