What the Mission Trip Will Be Like

Students at a Work Site at Douglas SERVE

Due to COVID-19, this trip has been canceled. However, we have a new way for youth groups to still participant in a Youth Unlimited SERVE Mission Trip. Introducing: [email protected] Read all the details here: https://www.youthunlimited.org/servehome/  Have a safe summer! See you next year!

Youth Unlimited provides week-long high school service trips and other faith-forming events for middle and high school age students. Each year we partner with churches to host SERVE events in their local communities, which are five to seven-day youth mission trips that send students out to care for and restore their world in an environment where they’ll encounter the concepts of justice and missional living. More than just a short high school service trip, SERVE is a faith-forming experience where the communities, congregations and students involved all experience lasting transformation.

Douglas SERVE

Children’s Haven is a unique ministry nestled in the Blackstone Valley area of Massachusetts. “The Haven” works with children and teens from Worcester, MA, the second largest city in New England. The majority of our city families are unchurched, low-income and broken. The parents desire their children to have a better life, but do not really know how to provide that. The Haven also works with children and teens from smaller towns in southern MA. These children, while not from the city, also come laden with burdens and baggage. Some of the families are Christian families who desire their children to be a part of the Haven and benefit from the mentoring we offer. Other families are not. These families also face the daily struggles of unemployment, relationship struggles, and drugs that we see in our city families. Camp weaves these lives together into a tapestry of variety and beauty. Teens from our program will be working with you and serving you, as well. The majority of these high school students are unchurched.

Worksites

Camp Chilaven is a 24-acre property. You will focus on beautifying the property, cleaning and improving our pond/fishing area, and creating trails in the woods. There is also a potential for work sites on city property – cleaning our after-school city ministry location and the neighborhood in general.

Relation of Opportunity to National Church and/or Long-term Goals

Youth Unlimited only works with local Host Churches who discern what type of work and community outreach will be advantageous to their ongoing work and community. So your group serves alongside the host congregation, experiencing their passion for Christ and compassion for their neighbors.

Pre-trip: Youth Unlimited supplies sending church youth leaders with a Digital Resource Box full of helps for adult leaders, vision casting materials (such as parent letter, pastor letter, bulletin insert, etc.) and pre-trip lessons for the youth group. Each adult leader receives the Leaders Guide one month before the trip so they can review the theme material and small group discussion outlines. During the trip: the Speaker, Worship Leader and the Spiritual Life Coordinator from the host church work with youth leaders to weave together the entire experience in light of the Gospel. Personal devotions, small group discussion material and debriefing questions for the work day are all included in the Leaders Guide and discussed in daily Leader Meetings. Post Trip: Youth Unlimited has worked hard with church leaders to develop a post trip plan that helps students think through the spiritual impact of the week and integrate what they've learned in to every day life. The post trip plan is in the Leaders Guide as well as the Digital Resource Box.

Mission Trip Offered By Youth Unlimited

Youth Unlimited provides week-long high school service trips and other faith-forming events for middle and high school age students. Each year we partner with churches to host SERVE events in their local communities, which are five to seven-day youth mission trips that send students out to care for and restore their world in an environment where they’ll encounter the concepts of justice and missional living. More than just a short high school service trip, SERVE is a faith-forming experience where the communities, congregations and students involved all experience lasting transformation.

SERVE is an answer to prayer on at least 3 levels. 1. Host Churches doing sustainable community outreach are praying for God to send laborers to advance their efforts to share the Gospel in tangible ways. 2. People in the host community are praying that God would help them. 3. Your youth group is obviously praying for a place to go and make a difference.

Your group could be an answer to prayer breathing energy into a Host Church and their community outreach while serving and learning from people in their community.

Innovative Church leaders invite your group to serve and learn in their community for a week and will send you home wanting to serve your own congregation and community all through the year.
