What the Mission Trip Will Be Like

Bolivia2

Use your gifts and passions to engage in serving the local community in Cochabamba, Bolivia. Depending on your area of study or ministry, current opportunities exist to work with underprivileged children at Compassion projects in the city, participate in outreach through the local church, or for those who are currently studying to be in the medical field, serve at a local health clinic or neurological therapy center.

Requirements:
*Must be a US Citizen or US Permanent Resident.

Individuals should have a healthy sense of self-confidence and willingness to try new things. A growing relationship with Jesus Christ. A servant's heart and a desire to learn how to effectively share the Gospel in a multi-cultural ministry context. Willingness to live communally and serve sacrificially. Flexible and adaptable. Spanish knowledge helpful.

Responsibilities:

Opportunities exist to serve in one or more of the following ministries in Cochabamba:

  • A Bolivian run, Christian non-profit hospital that can take doctors, nurses, hospital aides, medical/pre-med students, and even construction or maintenance work crews.
  • Compassion International project: Work at a Compassion site that serves several hundred children every week. Volunteers can serve in a multitude of ways including helping with homework, Bible studies and activities, cooking meals, and other areas as needed.
  • Neurological Therapy Center that is open to having Physical Therapy students or Physical Therapists come and serve. In addition to the care provided, this is a great opportunity to build relationships with patients who come to the center 6 days a week for a month.
  • Teaching computer skills, both basic and advanced
  • Participating in conversational English sessions at a local coffee shop for college-aged students looking to improve their English

There may be additional opportunities to work with children or in other ministry roles depending on individual interests and skills.

Language Needs:
For most ministries, Spanish language skills are very helpful, but not required and individuals can work with a translator if they have limited or no Spanish. However, all interns are highly encouraged to study Spanish on the field and enroll in language study (2-4 lessons/week with a private tutor) as part of their cross-cultural experience.

Living Environment:
Interns will be placed in a homestay with a trusted Bolivian family from the local church. Living with a family allows interns a unique immersive experience in Bolivian life and culture as they participate in the household and family activities with their hosts. Interns live in the city of Cochabamba, which averages daytime temperatures of 75-85.

Working Environment:
This will depend on the specific ministry context the intern is serving with. Interns will be supervised by WorldVenture host workers who will help the intern learn key skills for getting around the city, plugged into ministry, and provide mentorship and check-ins during the term.

Mission Trip Offered By WorldVenture

Billions of people don’t know Jesus. We’re not okay with that.

More than words, they are a reminder on the wall of our main office of why we do what we do. Since 1943, God has used thousands of WorldVenture workers and partners to impact millions with the good news.
We plant churches, build clinics, educate children, train leaders, provide disaster relief, combat injustice, foster the arts, and serve the poor with economic development…in Jesus name and to make disciples.
We recruit, train, and send disciples of Jesus throughout the world who sense Gods call to give their lives to share the gospel with people who have yet to hear it. And we partner with multitudes of Christ-following disciples in engaging the world for gospel impact.
