What the Mission Trip Will Be Like
Philippines: -MISSIONS INTERNSHIP-
Manila, Philippines
**This opportunity is offered for male interns only at this time.**
Q & A with ACTION missionary Adam Hussey
What are some ministry tasks you want the intern to accomplish serving with you?
Since this will be focused more on the video ministry I would like to see several videos completed by the end of the internship. This includes conceptualizing, storyboarding, scripting, planning, shooting and editing each video project. Along with these video projects the intern would also be involved in our street children ministry programs and discipleship ministry. I would like to also have them visit several other ACTION missionaries and see the wider scope of missions as they might also have a burden for those areas of ministry as well.
What are some key lessons from ministry and walk with the Lord that you want to impart to the interns to help them as they consider their own individual call to missions or vocational ministry?
I would like to see the intern come away with an understanding of what missions is really about. It's about a life dedicated to the Lord and ministry. I want the intern to see that no matter what gifts and abilities the Lord has blessed you with you can use them for the glory of God. I want the intern to see that missions isn't for those who want to "see the world" and "eat strange food," but it's a calling from God and a call to leave your nets and follow Christ.
What percentage of their time will be spent on administration, discipleship, and evangelism?
Administration is one day a week. This includes email, blog, website or Facebook updates to supporters/churches. It's also a time to do work fund reimbursements. Our discipleship ministry is currently a one-on-one ministry. I (Adam) meet with one teenager from our church here each week. We go through a discipleship course which includes questions and scripture memory verses each week. Evangelism is done through our street children programs which are currently twice a week (Tuesday's and Friday's).
What criteria is usde to measure the effectiveness of an intern?
The intern must be willing to be humble and teachable and follow the host missionaries’ instructions and not act as if they know it all or they know better. The host missionary will continue to serve in their country long after the intern leaves so it’s important that the intern abides by the rules set before them.
What would a typical day look like?
As with most missionaries there is no typical day. What we do have scheduled is Tuesday and Friday evenings are the street children programs, each Saturday is a one-to-one discipleship with a teen from our church, Monday is usually admin day. The rest of the days of the week are filled with planning video shoots, editing videos, traveling to video shoots etc.
Please list specific skills an intern may expect to develop by the time the internship is completed.
Time management is one skill that will be acquired. Patience and flexibility in ministry as many things get postponed, moved or cancelled. Video skills will be sharpened and honed. Many opportunities to share testimonies and give devotionals. Opportunities to get out of your comfort zone and servewith the extreme poor. Getting familiar with the local language (Tagalog) and how to get around on public transportation.
Please list any books you would encourage the interns to read before their field experience with you.
One book that I would ask the intern to read before arriving is "Let the Nations be Glad" by John Piper.

Relation of Opportunity to National Church and/or Long-term Goals
Adam and Alei serve ACTION through video production, street children outreaches and youth discipleship. They go to a local Filipino church called Greenhills Christian Fellowship that exists to know Christ and make Him known. The Husseys serve the youth at this church.
