What the Mission Trip Will Be Like

Students do yard work at a work site

Due to COVID-19, this trip has been canceled. However, we have a new way for youth groups to still participate in a Youth Unlimited SERVE Mission Trip. Introducing: [email protected] Read all the details here: https://www.youthunlimited.org/servehome/  Have a safe summer! See you next year!

Youth Unlimited provides week-long high school service trips and other faith-forming events for middle and high school age students. Each year we partner with churches to host SERVE events in their local communities, which are five to seven-day youth mission trips that send students out to care for and restore their world in an environment where they’ll encounter the concepts of justice and missional living. More than just a short high school service trip, SERVE is a faith-forming experience where the communities, congregations, and students involved all experience lasting transformation.

Grand Rapids (LaGrave) SERVE

Grand Rapids has been called, “a cool city with warm hospitality.” Here in West Michigan, we’re on the on the cutting edge of art, cuisine, and culture, but we also have a distinctive small town feel as people are friendly and the streets are generally safe and clean.

While Grand Rapids is a wonderful place to live and visit, it is not wonderful for everyone who lives here. Nearly 16% of the population still lives below the poverty line. During your stay in Grand Rapids, you will have a chance to learn from and work alongside people in our community. We expect that God is going to move in mighty ways this week, both in the hearts of individuals and in meeting the needs of the community. Come be a part of the change!

Worksites

You will be working at a different site each day giving you a great experience in our city of contrasts. Some examples of work sites are;

-Partnering with agencies that work with the homeless population

-Supporting local food banks

-Yard work or light construction in homes

-Working with children at local day care centers

-Random acts of kindness

-You will also share, in some creative ways, Christ’s love in the community at large

Each adult leader receives the Leaders Guide one month before the trip so they can review the theme material and small group discussion outlines. During the trip: the Speaker, Worship Leader and the Spiritual Life Coordinator from the host church work with youth leaders to weave together the entire experience in light of the Gospel. Personal devotions, small group discussion material and debriefing questions for the work day are all included in the Leaders Guide and discussed in daily Leader Meetings. Post Trip: Youth Unlimited has worked hard with church leaders to develop a post trip plan that helps students think through the spiritual impact of the week and integrate what they've learned in to every day life. The post trip plan is in the Leaders Guide as well as the Digital Resource Box.

Mission Trip Offered By Youth Unlimited

Youth Unlimited provides week-long high school service trips and other faith-forming events for middle and high school age students. Each year we partner with churches to host SERVE events in their local communities, which are five to seven-day youth mission trips that send students out to care for and restore their world in an environment where they’ll encounter the concepts of justice and missional living. More than just a short high school service trip, SERVE is a faith-forming experience where the communities, congregations and students involved all experience lasting transformation.

SERVE is an answer to prayer on at least 3 levels. 1. Host Churches doing sustainable community outreach are praying for God to send laborers to advance their efforts to share the Gospel in tangible ways. 2. People in the host community are praying that God would help them. 3. Your youth group is obviously praying for a place to go and make a difference.

Your group could be an answer to prayer breathing energy into a Host Church and their community outreach while serving and learning from people in their community.

Innovative Church leaders invite your group to serve and learn in their community for a week and will send you home wanting to serve your own congregation and community all through the year.
