Full Description:
Gangs are a way of life for many kids living in or near San Salvador, the capital of tiny El Salvador. Many youth feel that joining a gang is just the way things are. Gangs offer them community and a sense of belonging they can’t find anywhere else. Christ For the City- El Salvador is working to make a difference in the lives of these youth and give them an alternative to gang life by teaching God’s Word, giving them positive friendships and mentors, and a place to do something they all love- play soccer.
The Soccer Training School recruits at-risk youth and gives them a place to go every day before or after school. Christ For the City staff lead devotions before each practice and work hard to develop relationships with the youth and speak the truth into their lives.
If you are a soccer player, we invite you to come experience this extraordinary ministry firsthand. Help teach Salvadoran youth how to play soccer and how to build a solid relationship with God. You will find that the time you spend investing in the lives of these youth will change your own life as well.

You will receive pre-field preparation from our Central Office in the U.S. to assist you in arranging your trip, fundraising, and preparing for life in El Salvador. Once on the field you will be assigned to a missionary mentor who will help you learn your way around San Salvador and provide spiritual direction.

You will be responsible for raising funds and airfare for your trip. Your funds will cover your room, meals and laundry with a host family and local travel to and from your ministry site.

Applicants should be Evangelical Christians who are able to profess agreement with Christ For the City's Statement of Faith (see below). Applicants must also be at least 18 years old/or a high school graduate.

After your initial inquiry, you will be asked to fill out a preliminary application that will serve as your introduction to the organization. If your initial application is approved, a second application and two references will be required. If, after reviewing the application and references, you are officially accepted we will begin assisting you with your trip preparations.

CHRIST FOR THE CITY- STATEMENT OF FAITH
We believe in one God, Creator and Sustainer of the universe, who eternally exists in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
We believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, who is fully God and fully man. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died on the cross for the sins of the world, was raised bodily and exalted to God's right hand where He makes intercession for His own. He will personally come again.
We believe that God created humankind, male and female, in His own image. However, all creation suffers the consequences of the fall and is under God's judgment.
We believe that because of His love, God sent His Son Jesus Christ, who inaugurated His Kingdom, provided atonement for sin, disarmed the powers and authorities, triumphing over them by the cross, reconciling the world to Himself. He will consummate His Kingdom in righteousness, power, and glory.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity, who glorifies Jesus Christ, working in all peoples to bring them to believe and obey Christ. The Spirit dwells in those who believe, equipping and empowering them for lives of holiness and fruitful service.
We believe the Bible to be the divinely inspired and authoritative Word of God, the only infallible rule of faith and practice.
We believe that all who repent and believe in Christ are born into life eternal, delivered from condemnation, and as His Church are called to communicate the Gospel, proclaim the Kingdom, make disciples of all nations, and seek to be instruments of His righteousness, justice, and healing, all to the glory of God.
We believe in the resurrection of the body, the eternal blessedness of believers in the presence of Christ and the eternal separation of unbelievers from Him.
