:: CSM - Center for Student Missions
Full Description:
CSM provides students and adults with an effective urban ministry experience that transforms lives, influences local churches and honors Christ. We provide rural and suburban groups from a variety of Christian churches with a “bridge” to ministry opportunities in some of North America’s key urban centers. Since 1988, more than 122,000 young people and adults from over 7,000 churches, schools and other organizations have provided valuable assistance to inner-city churches and other ministries in urban Boston, Los Angeles, Chicago, Denver, Washington, D.C., Houston, Nashville, New York, Philadelphia, and the San Francisco Bay Area.
If you are interested in youth ministry, you will have an extraordinary opportunity to observe and work with many youth workers and their groups over the course of your time with us. At the same time, you will have the opportunity to observe and work with a wide variety of urban ministries and organizations addressing the needs of the poor and marginalized while facilitating the visiting groups during their time in the city. Partner ministries include children's programs, food delivery, visiting with clients at homeless shelters, and visiting seniors and shut-ins, just to name a few. A CSM host helps to "bridge the gap" between suburban/rural people and city people. The city host also leads discussion/reflection sessions at the end of each day to help the participants begin to process their experiences.

Relation of Opportunity to National Church and/or Long-term Goals: |
|
The CSM experience is a partnership with well-established local ministries. Over time, the youth and adult groups provide ongoing service in these often marginalized neighborhoods. You become an important link in the continuation of these vital ministries. Each year, CSM provides more than 300,000 hours of volunteer work to these ministries across North America.
