What the Mission Trip Will Be Like

Laura and friend Did you know that Alaska is the least church-attending state in the US? It is far less churched than places like Haiti (95% professing Christian), Guatemala (96% professing Christian) , Belize (84% professing Christian), and other central America/ Caribbean countries. Alaska is 69% professing Christian with only 36% saying that they identify with any religious group. People think of Alaska as a tourist destination, but we are a serious mission field. And we need help!

Partnering with local churches, we facilitate mission volunteers and church teams working direct with non-churched children, youth and adults in local parks -- feeding meals to the hungry, backyard Bible school, sports, games and crafts. Most of the neighborhoods we work in are amazingly multi-ethnic. Three out of the top five most diverse communities in America are in Anchorage, Alaska and we work in all three. Working in our local parks is like international missions in a
domestic setting. Our goal is nothing less than a multiplying, church planting Jesus Movement here in Alaska. We are committed to partnering with others in church planting, evangelism and discipleship.

You can serve here without a translator and without a passport. No language barrier and no Zika virus to worry about. Temps here in the summer are in the 60's, 70's instead of 90's &100's in Central America. Our housing is clean and comfortable and safe. Our food is the best! And we will show off some of the beauty of Alaska while you are here!

We live here in Alaska and know Alaska. We are not a BIG mission that is scattered all over the world. We are focused on Alaska. Our passion is reaching OUR state with the Gospel Good news. We host far more volunteers serving here than anybody else. Our two biggest compliments is that we are SO WELL ORGANIZED and the food is the best ever on a mission trip! We were completely booked with teams for Summer 2017 by the end of January. You snooze, you lose!

We serve in the neglected neighborhoods. Your team will work in multi-ethnic communities —including Sudanese, Hmong, Native American, Samoan, Hispanic, and African-American.
Our belief is that the Great Commission is not for the World to go to church, but for the Church to go to the World. Where are people at, and how can we go to them, serve them in the Name of Christ, and look for opportunities to have a verbal witness?
We partner with local churches and church planters in this ministry and provide followup for those your team reaches.

Why Alaska? The Pew Research Center study found Alaska to be the LEAST religious state in the United States. http://pewresearch.org/databank/dailynumber/?NumberID=925

At lunch, you'll feed hungry, disadvantaged kids a good meal.
In the afternoons, your team will work in local parks doing backyard bible school, games and sports with unchurched children and youth.
In the evenings you will help host neighborhood evangelistic park parties.

We do eight consecutive weeks of teams here in Anchorage and Wasilla/Palmer. Choose one of the dates below and contact us.

Sunday. Arrive Anchorage, Alaska.
Monday. Sightsee/ Orientation.
Tuesday - Saturday. Work Project.
Saturday night. Depart Anchorage, Alaska.
Sunday, arrive home.

Fun? Oh yeah. One day, we'll take you on a spectacular, jaw-dropping drive south from Anchorage along Turnagain Arm – an inlet named by the famous explorer Captain Cook. Look for eagles and whales in the sea on your right and sheep on the mountains to your left. Soon we'll arrive in magical Portage Valley. You’re surrounded by majestic blue glaciers! We'll take a short, easy hike to a glacier and experience the wilderness. Maybe we’ll see a bear or a moose! How often do you get a chance to throw a snowball in mid summer? Perhaps we’ll take an hour boat cruise to a glacier. Later, we’ll enjoy a wilderness picnic surrounded by stunning scenery. On the way back we’ll stop at the Wildlife Conservation Center and see grizzly & black bears, caribou, moose, buffalo and other Alaskan critters. Oh yeah, they have a great store for shopping too!

We live here in Alaska and have been doing this a long time. We have more experience than anyone else in hosting mission volunteers. In the past six years we have hosted more than 6,000 volunteers. Folks keep coming back again and again because they trust us and we know what we are doing.

Global Partnership Ministries started 24 years ago to help respond to the newly opening doors in Eastern Europe. Over that time, we have taken almost 3,000 people overseas on mission for Christ. Nine years ago we moved to Alaska. Since then, we have hosted several thousand volunteer missionaries here in Alaska. In Alaska, we are known as "GRACEWORKS" We believe that the Bible is God's Word; that people are lost without Christ; and that it is our responsibility to get the Message to people. The Great Commission is not just that people ought to go to church. It is for the Church to go to people! We have also found that we usually have to serve people and demonstrate love before they are ready to listen to what we have to say. They don't care what we know until they know that we care. Our primary fields of focus are Alaska and Romania. Each year we help facilitate hundreds of volunteers serving all over Alaska — which is almost three times the size of Texas! Our strategy is to use volunteer teams to help reach people and start small groups to disciple those we reach. We are especially pleased that 16 small groups involving 60 people started as a result of our "GraceWorks" ministry volunteers this past summer. Most of these groups are continuing — led by local church leaders, our staff and local missionaries! Why Alaska? Most people think of Alaska only as a tourist destination. God certainly worked overtime making it one of the most spectacularly beautiful places on the earth. However, it is also spiritually dark. The Pew Research Center recently released a study that found Alaska to have the lowest church attendance in the United States. WE NEED HELP!

There is no place in the world like Alaska. When you think of Alaska, think big. Think real BIG!!!! It is awe-inspiring. Can you say, “Aaaaaahhh….laska?” Alaska is a vast land of seacoast, mountains, plateaus, forests, enormous tides, rivers, and glaciers. It's museums are outdoors. It's stories are painted, not spoken. Pack your six senses and come on!!!

Alaska is more than twice the size of Texas, and larger than Spain, France, and Germany combined! Check out how Alaska compares to the continental US. http://www.stumbleupon.com/s/#2dOu0J/www.usmarshals.gov/district/ak/images/alaska-small.gif/

Other Information

"I have to share this story with you….I have a photo album with some very cherished pictures of this past year’s trip. My 16 year old granddaughter, Rebecca, was looking @ the pictures; especially the ones I had of the children. While looking at the pictures, she said…Nanny, I have to go to Alaska. I have to meet these children; I have to help them. So, needless to say, I am very proud to say that she will be one of our team members. "

“Thanks for all you did for our church and teeenagers. Thanks for all you did for my wife and I. This trip changed our lives …” Youth Pastor from Missouri
